Welcome back to my blog, thanks for stopping by! After writing a few reviews on common (and super popular!) fitness studios in the downtown Columbus area, I thought it was time to change it up a little bit. Check out my post for two fun studios I was able to visit through my ClassPass membership! Enjoy, and as always feel free to leave comments below for questions or your own ideas for studios you’d like to see on the site. :)
One of the most outstanding benefits of a ClassPass membership is that you will never be bored. And if you are getting bored? Put yourself out there! The thought of trying a trampoline workout class would have never even crossed my mind if a friend (who also does Classpass) wouldn’t have suggested it to me a few weeks ago. We were both bored on a Saturday morning and wanted to try something new to spice up our workout routines. After a few months in to our Classpass memberships, we found ourselves falling into a similar routine with the same old studios. It was time for a change, and The Bounce Club it was! The studio is set in a large warehouse-type building on the outskirts of Powell, Ohio. We walked in and were surrounded by Ohio State memorabilia. The buckeyes theme was comprised of red trampolines and foam pits, giant “Fatheads” on the wall of helmets and Brutus himself, and even the game room in the back (maybe for children’s birthday parties?) was decked out in Scarlet and Gray. (Pretty much a Buckeyes Wonderland for an OSU alumni like myself). We checked in with the front desk and were handed our “jump shoes” at no additional cost to us, and we headed toward the back of the building to join jumpers of all ages. Our instructor was a friendly, middle-aged woman who was determined to give us a workout and a half. I think other members of the class were there more for the fun of jumping on trampolines [okay, so were we] but I was definitely tired after running suicides, throwing tuck jumps, and crawling through the giant foam pit. Although I haven’t been back since my first experience, I enjoyed the fun change in my routine and have added Fit Jump to my “Bored Saturdays” activity list. The location not only offers workout classes, but anyone from ages 1 and up can go during their free jump times just to have some fun! I’ve attached a few pictures and listing of prices to the bottom of the blog post—check it out!
Now, let’s throw it in reverse and talk about a fitness studio experience that was most definitely NOT open to all ages…Pole Dancing! Sure, if you’re a Classpass member you have seen a few class selections here and there called “pole dancing for beginners” or “lap dancing basics” and you just laughed and kept scrolling. But have you actually ever TRIED it?! I hereby retract any statement I ever made in college that was similar to “well if I fail this exam then I will just drop out of college and become a pole dancer.” Uh.. negative. Pole dancing is HARD! Take it from a girl who was actively involved in sports, teams, and physical activity her entire life—I possess no coordination whatsoever to make myself look sexy while flying around a pole fastened into the ground. Once again, a bored Saturday morning brought my adventurous ClassPass-going friend and I to a low-key studio on the outside of New Albany called “Infinity Aerial” (and by low-key, I mean that they didn’t even have a sign on the front of the building with its name.) Pulling into the parking lot, we identified the studio by the address and hoped for the best. The studio definitely lacked a “design” element as bare cement walls cornered around an almost empty room. 2 poles stood in the back of the studio, while the front was adorned with 5-6 aerial ribbons (is that even the name for those things?) which were currently being used by another class in session. My friend and I snuck to the back of the room and stood in the back. After a long and awkward hour with a few giggles in between, we learned a 4-5 minute segment of a pole routine! I will definitely not classify this experience as a “work out” by any means, but it was a fun thing to do for free and a hilarious topic of conversation over martinis that evening.
Thanks for reading my quick post about some fun experiences I’ve had at a few non-traditional studios in the 614. I’d love to hear your stories!
Please feel free to follow my accounts on Instagram at BedtoBarre, and Twitter at @614Fit as well! I post anything from class experiences, current fitness events in the area, and of COURSE food. Until next time, stay fit! :)
